Keymaster::Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is preparing to go from being an outcast to a key asset with the Super Eagles star targeting a revival under Mauricio Sarri at Lazio
Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is enjoying a remarkable preseason turnaround at Lazio, with manager Maurizio Sarri seemingly placing growing trust in the young Nigerian as the new Serie A campaign approaches.
Previously overlooked by ex-boss Marco Baroni for large chunks of last season, the 24-year-old has become a standout performer in Sarri’s revamped preparations.
With Lazio’s transfer options limited due to ongoing restrictions, Sarri has been working closely with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru to uncover the untapped potential that once earned him a spot in Manchester City’s youth ranks.
Upon his appointment a few weeks ago, Sarri’s first comments about Dele-Bashiru were positive and the Italian manager has been true to his words.

There is a clear emphasis on improving his positional discipline, defensive pressing, and awareness without the ball — key traits required in the high-octane system former Chelsea manager Sarri wants to implement.

Interestingly, Lazio’s trademark 4-3-3 formation could be undergoing subtle tactical shifts this season.
With the club’s current crop of attacking midfielders — including Pedro and Dele-Bashiru — offering versatility, Sarri has reportedly experimented with a 4-2-3-1 setup in training.

Sporting director Tony D’Amico has reportedly championed Dele-Bashiru’s development, highlighting him as a “potential hit” who may bring balance and flair to Lazio’s evolving system.

All roads lead to the club’s Serie A opener against Como on August 24, where Dele-Bashiru might just emerge as a surprise starter.
