The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) will replace multiple import levies with a single 4% Free On Board (FOB) charge to streamline payments and boost transparency, Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi announced at a Lagos stakeholders’ meeting on July 21, 2025. The new structure eliminates the 1% Comprehensive Import Supervision Scheme (CISS) and 7% cost of collection, requiring only the upfront 4% payment. Adeniyi stated that all revenue will go to the Federation Account, calling it a “win-win” reform under the new B’Odogwu digital clearance platform. Stakeholders welcomed the simplified system but raised concerns about transition delays. The initiative aims to enhance trade efficiency and Nigeria’s global customs standing, with Deputy Comptroller-General Kikelomo Adeola highlighting its role in positioning Nigeria as a digital customs leader.
