Former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola has emphasized the critical need to preserve Lagos’s history to prevent distortion and uphold its values, particularly as discussions surrounding street naming continue to stir controversy. Speaking at the public presentation of “Discover Lagos State: A History Puzzle Book (Volume 1),” Fashola highlighted the importance of historical records in contextualizing contributions of individuals like Dr. Isaac Ladipo Oluwole, whose work in public health is immortalized by a street name in Ikeja.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, echoed these sentiments, commending the Lagos State Records and Archive Bureau (LASRAB) for their timely initiative. Fashola, whose administration established LASRAB, urged for its adequate resourcing to create a reliable repository of Lagos’s memory. Hamzat praised the puzzle book as an innovative tool to foster historical consciousness and ensure Lagosians understand their heritage, preventing historical distortion.
