Lawyer Femi Falana has called on his colleagues to take a more active role in holding political leaders accountable. He pointed to the widespread issue of poverty preventing many children from attending school, while the region’s resources are being privatized.
Falana specifically highlighted the 2025 budget, where senators and representatives allegedly added 11,000 constituency projects worth N6.9 trillion. He urged lawyers to investigate where these projects are located and, if the answers are unsatisfactory, to take legal action against the lawmakers.
Echoing this sentiment, former Attorney General Akin Olujinmi encouraged lawyers to uphold the rule of law and promote justice, fairness, and equity in the region. Both speakers emphasized the legal community’s responsibility to challenge the status quo and ensure accountability.
