Celine Dion, the Canadian-born singing icon, has announced her return to the stage with a concert series in Paris, France — amid her battle with an incurable disease of the nervous system.
The shows will be held at La Défense Arena from September 12 to October 14.
In December 2022, Dion revealed she had been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological condition with autoimmune features that causes uncontrollable muscle stiffness and spasms.
The disorder is characterised by fluctuating muscle rigidity in the trunk and limbs, as well as heightened sensitivity to stimuli such as noise, touch, and emotional distress.
While there is no cure, treatments, including anti-anxiety medications and muscle relaxants, can help manage symptoms and slow progression.
In May 2023, Dion disclosed that she was unable to continue her tour due to the condition.
However, in a video shared to her Instagram on Monday to mark her 58th birthday, Dion announced that she is doing well and ready to return to the stage.
“I want to let you know that I am doing great, managing my health. I’m feeling good, I’m singing again, even doing a little bit of dancing,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to fans for their unwavering support over the years.
“Over the last few years, every day that came by, I felt your prayers and support. Your kindness and love. Even in my most difficult times, you were there for me. You’ve helped me in ways that I can’t even describe. I am truly so fortunate to have your support. I have missed you so much,” she said.
Dion described the upcoming Paris shows as a significant milestone in her recovery.
“This year, I am getting the best gift of my life. I am getting the chance to see you, to perform for you once again in Paris. Beginning in September this year. I am so happy, I am so ready to do this. I am feeling good and strong,” she said.
