A coalition of civil society groups, the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (CPD), has lauded Nigeria’s monumental success in curbing crude oil theft, with losses dropping to a 16-year low. Citing official data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), the CPD highlighted that daily losses plummeted from 102,900 barrels in 2021 to just 9,600 in July 2025, a reduction of over 94%.
The group attributed this turnaround to the decisive action of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the efforts of security agencies, and effective private-public partnerships. They specifically commended Tantita Security Services Limited for its crucial role and collaborative model involving local communities.
The CPD stressed that this success significantly increases national revenue, allowing for more funding for critical infrastructure and social services. Urging continuity, the coalition called on the government to protect and sustain the current security framework to safeguard these hard-won economic gains and foster investor confidence for Nigeria’s future prosperity.
