“I Will Run in 2027” – Atiku Disowns Aide’s Statement, Confirms Presidential Ambition
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2027, stating his ambition is to “rescue” Nigeria from its current state of decline.
The announcement came as he forcefully distanced himself from a recent statement made on his behalf by Prof. Olateju.
“I did not issue that statement,” Atiku clarified. “When people stand in for me at events, we preview my thoughts… In this particular instance, there was no engagement with me to distill my thoughts. Prof Olateju was not speaking for me.”
Confirming his political future, the elder statesman added, “I will run in 2027. Nigeria needs to be decisively rescued from the intensive care unit it has been consigned. The degeneration in our country, the level of poverty and pain, the anguish, is unacceptable.”
Atiku’s declaration serves as a direct response to the presidency, which has consistently downplayed the significance of his political coalition, the ADC, portraying it as a powerless entity that exists only on paper.
