The Nigeria Police Force has dismantled a notorious arms syndicate supplying weapons to bandits in Benue and other North-Central states. Recovered items include a rocket launcher, multiple AK-47 rifles, and thousands of ammunition rounds.
On June 21, 2025, police raided a forest hideout at the Nasarawa-Benue boundary, engaging bandits in a gunfight. Two machine guns were seized. Later, on July 8, operatives arrested 25-year-old Abubakar Isah with three AK-47s and 1,002 rounds of ammunition on the Lafia-Makurdi expressway.
Investigations revealed arms dealer Jacob Adikwu supplied weapons to bandit leader Dan Hassan, responsible for attacks across multiple states. Police arrested Adikwu on July 16, recovering more weapons, including a rocket launcher. Another suspect, Ibrahim “Chelsea,” admitted sending ₦6.5 million for arms smuggling.
The Inspector-General of Police commended the operatives and vowed to pursue all criminals involved. Efforts continue to arrest Dan Hassan and others terrorizing the region.
